Why can't I increase the item price within a Purchase Order?

Question:

  • Why can't I modify or raise item prices when creating a PO?
  • I'm seeing an error message when I am trying to adjust the price of an item within the Procurement tab. Why is this?

Answer:

If you are unable to raise the item price when creating a Purchase Order, you will most likely receive the following message:

"The new unit price for order item [item name] surpasses the user's purchase variance limit."

This means that your administrator limited your possibility to modify the item price when creating a Purchase Order.

Note: When a variance limit is set, users can update purchase orders and run into the issue noted above. This is because one or more of the line items within the purchase order is already outside of their Variance Limit.
